Hello. It's been a while. Working hard and sometimes hardly working. That was stupid but in reality been busy with putting together our art show Tropical Apartments, as well as moving into a new house in the wonderful neighborhood of Highland Park. Anyways I came across the following clip, while watching other clip of a John Norris did with No Age . I was really impressed with both John Norris's interview skills as well as Bradford responses. Also remember when John Norris was doing stuff for Extra. I feel like Bradford offers the most comprehensive response dealing with popular culture and how it's viewed by the youth. I can't really do his comments much justice, please watch to see what I am speaking about.
I loved both of Mr. Cox's two past records, both Deerhunter as well as the Atlas Sound record. He is definitely one of the most prolific song writers of this generation. You will be doing huge disservice to yourself if you don't at least check his stuff out.

One thing that I've been thinking about lately is the how young males are protrayed in the media. In the LA Times today about the deaths of Heath Leger and Brad Renfro, both in their mid to late twenties. I guess it makes me wonder if people like Leger and Renfro will come to represent something signifcant in culture for their generation, or rather my own. I have to say that I do idenifiy with I guess certain amount of presure and expectations. How does that cause younger males today how to react? I don't know, but I wanted to find other examples in the media of male behavior. Thank God, for MTV, right?

I think shows like Life of Ryan and Rob and Big are representive of male behavior to a certain extent as well but for different reasons. For Rob and Big, it's a show that I think embraces the inner-man child that we are condiction for a varitey of reasons at bay. To be serious is to be taken seriously is be a man. In many ways Rob and Big is the anthensis of that. Totally embracing that childness that is counter to much of perhaps the traditional of male.




Life of Ryan, another MTV show, also skatboard related, followes the Ryan who is a teen pro skater dealing with family and a personal life, along with being famous. I have to admit it's a little but too much at times due to fact that he already has so much at his fingertips that it harder to realate too. Especially when it makes his personal problems not that diffcult. But what I think what it tells about males is that of aniextiy that is distintivly males I guess. It's a nervous akwardness that is diffcult to escape that in real life. Thank god for reality TV, right? If not what would I have to blog with.

So, I got a new job. Here. I'm nervous and looking foward to it. It will be a big change in my life but I will embrace it. It will be to have lunch breaks back and get paid more. I am super stoke but nervous at the same time. I look foward for these changes.

Perhaps, is why I turned to the new Lupe Fiasco. This song makes want to hug myself, tilting my head back, slow shifting from side to side. I feel like it's obvious is about the satrical nature of celebraties but at the same time it would venture to say it's about loving your self and embracing the human spirit.

Dreams Lost in Paradise

I have been recently giving thought to the genre as true crime. My mom showed me this article today that appeared in the LA TIMES this weekend.

I was really struck by the story. In the first place you a group of young people that have so much at their finger tips that it seems unimaginable to most, but it is for that reason that makes them believe that makes them highly capable of this act. I guess in many ways it easy to see where these people come from. It is the idea of community that I think I can relate to. The whole story plays like some type of Shakespearian tragedy, which is what really drew me in.

It's long article but I hope you have the time to check it out. Big ups the people who wrote and contributed to it.It's the most gripping narrative I've read recently.

"The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao", is perhaps one of my favorite books of this past year. I can't get enough of it. I'm almost done with the book and I'm pretty bummed cause there is not more. His work touches on many things including Dominican Republic,Sci-Fi, Ethnic girls, being a dork, dating ethnic girls...

In this video, he's speaking at Google HQ, which I guess they get to watch on their lunch breaks or something. I need something like in my life. He's really funny and cussing and alot, which reminds me of my dad's style of teaching.

I read Naomi Klien's No Logo four years ago. It was one of the deciding factors into incorporate Sociology into my major. Her new book looks awesome.
